How to activate the Afghanistan eSIM

  1. 1

    Choose and buy

Check that your phone supports eSIM, then pick your plan. The QR code arrives by email, usually in under a minute, and is also saved in My eSIMs.

  2. 2

    Install before you travel

Connect to Wi-Fi and scan the QR code. Installing doesn't use up any days: the validity period only starts when the eSIM connects to a network at your destination.

  3. 3

    Activate on arrival

Turn on the eSIM, enable data roaming for it and select it for mobile data. Keep roaming off on your primary SIM.

What is the best eSIM for Afghanistan?

For a week in Afghanistan with maps, messages and email, the 1 GB plan for 7 days (RM 31.39) is usually enough. With social media and video, expect to use 3 to 5 GB per week: the 5 GB plan for 30 days costs RM 104.99.

Which networks does the Afghanistan eSIM use?

The Afghanistan eSIM works on the Roshan network, with up to 4G LTE speeds where available.

Does the Afghanistan eSIM come with a phone number?

No. Afghanistan eSIM plans are data only. WhatsApp stays on your usual number, and you can keep your primary SIM in your phone.

How much data do I need for 15 days in Afghanistan?

With maps, messages and email, expect to use about 1 GB per week: the 2 GB plan for 15 days costs RM 46.59. With social media and video, it's more like 3 to 5 GB per week: the 10 GB plan for 30 days costs RM 161.09.

eSIM, local SIM or roaming: which is best for Afghanistan?

An eSIM does the job of a local SIM card, but you install it before you fly, with nothing to pick up and no need to remove your primary SIM. For Afghanistan, plans start at RM 31.39. With roaming, you pay whatever your network charges; with the eSIM, you know the price before you travel.

Can I top up without switching eSIMs?

On most plans, yes: you top up the same eSIM from your account or the Wavee app, with no new QR code and nothing to install. The top-up screen shows the plans that work with your eSIM.

Can I use my phone as a hotspot?

Usually yes, but it depends on the plan and the local network. If it matters for your trip, talk to us before you buy.

What if I can't use the eSIM?

You have up to 30 days to request a refund in eligible cases: a cancelled trip, an incompatible or locked phone, or an eSIM that doesn't connect. We review every request, and our support team will first try to fix the problem with you on WhatsApp or by email.
